A tragic collision in Escondido on Saturday night left a 13-year-old boy dead and resulted in felony charges for the driver, authorities confirmed. The Escondido Police Department reported the accident occurred at the intersection of North Broadway and Country Club Lane, where 20-year-old Alexander Tito Oroz, an Escondido resident, was involved in the fatal two-vehicle crash.

Oroz, who was driving one of the vehicles, is now facing charges of Felony DUI and Gross Vehicular Manslaughter after the young teen passenger in his car succumbed to his injuries. Despite the fact that Paramedics and officers initiated urgent lifesaving measures and three injured individuals were taken to local hospitals, the situation proved dire for the young victim. The Escondido Police Dispatch was alerted to the incident at approximately 9:56 PM, as confirmed in a statement released by the department.

According to reports, the Escondido Police were quickly on the scene to assess the casualties and coordinate with Escondido Fire Paramedics, who transported the victims to various hospitals throughout the county. An adult male and an adult female were also among the injured. The man was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital, the woman to Scripps La Jolla Hospital, and the 13-year-old to Palomar Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

Following medical clearance, Alexander Tito Oroz was transported to Tri City Hospital, and he awaits booking into Vista jail on the charges leveled against him while the Escondido Police Department’s Traffic Division is calling on witnesses or anyone with information regarding the crash to come forward. They've encouraged contact with Officer Paul Smyth at (760) 839-4423. Authorities have indicated that alcohol may have played a critical role in this heartbreaking incident, which is still under thorough investigation.
