A South Shore shooting has left a local family reeling for answers as Torian Pryor, 19, succumbed to gunshot wounds in the aftermath of gunfire. Pryor was standing outside a residence on the 6700 block of South Cornell Avenue just after 12:30 a.m. April 1st when shots rang out from a black Jeep, as per Chicago police. Initially listed in good condition at the University of Chicago Medical Center, Pryor was declared dead four hours later, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
In a heart-wrenching interview obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times, Pryor’s brother, Troy Pryor, shared memories of their closeness and described Torian as a beacon of leadership and joy in their family. Troy is struggling to piece together the circumstances that led to suddenly losing his brother, expressing a desire to understand why Torian was targeted: "He lost his life to some stupidity. I just really want to know why they targeted someone they don't know. They're taking good-hearted kids."
The weekend of the shooting saw staggering violence with 32 people shot, seven fatally, making it the city's deadliest weekend of the year. Amidst the ongoing investigation, which has yet to result in an arrest, families like the Pryors are left grappling with the abrupt loss. As noted by FOX 32 Chicago, the identity of the victim was initially unreported, but further details have since confirmed that Torian Pryor was the young man whose life came to an abrupt and violent end that day.
Troy Pryor continues to recall his brother as "an angel on Earth," relentlessly seeking clarity about the fatal incident. Pain is palpable in Troy's words as he reflects on the nightmarish reality; "It hurts real bad, this ain't supposed to be happening," he told the Chicago Sun-Times. "These are the moments you don't want to live for, burying your brother, especially so young. … I wake up every day thinking it was a dream." The baffling silence from authorities only compounds the family’s anguish as they grapple with the void left behind by a life cut short.
