Eight individuals have been caught up in a sting that spanned across San Antonio, Houston, and Corpus Christi, where they allegedly contributed to a large-scale drug trafficking operation. Revealed by the U.S. Department of Justice, the FBI-led investigation brought to light a network supposedly responsible for distributing heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamine across southern Texas.
The suspects arrested were noted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Texas to include: Rene "Uber" Gonzales, 31; Michael Fuentes, 50; Rene Velasquez, 52, of Mexico; Mario Zulaica, 50; George Gonzalez, 47; Reynaldo Sanchez, 38; Richard Gonzales, 40; and Rene Rivera, 41. They are now facing charges to directly relate with intent to distribute substantial quantities of illegal substances.
In what appears to be a significant seizure, authorities also uncovered a total of 60 kilograms of cocaine, estimated over a striking $1 million, along with $250,000 in cash during the swoop. The operation seems to have delivered a blow to the local drug trade, dismantling a hidden lab in Von Ormy that was reportedly being used to process liquid methamphetamine into crystal meth. From this site alone, the feds confiscated 15 kilograms of crystal meth and 16 gallons of liquid methamphetamine, as per the report by Fox San Antonio.
With multiple agencies involved, the crackdown underscored a concerted effort to combat drug distribution networks. Each suspect now must carefully navigate the judicial system, bearing charges that include conspiracy and possession with the intent to distribute drugs ranging from methamphetamine to cocaine and heroin.
