A former teacher from Buckeye, Alyssa Paige Todd, has been indicted on charges of sexual misconduct involving an underage student. Todd, who formerly taught at Odyssey Institute for Advanced and International Studies High School, is facing six felony counts of sexual misconduct with a minor, plus one count of aggravated luring of a minor, as azfamily.com reported.
The 23-year-old's arrest comes after her husband tipped off the police on March 16. He discovered what he suspected was evidence of "inappropriate contact" between his wife and a 15-year-old boy – both handwritten notes of a sexual nature found in a dresser and suggestive digital messages on Todd's laptop, according to FOX 10 Phoenix. The alleged sexual relations spanned at least two months and happened both at school and off campus. The school, which reported an enrollment of 1,761 students for the 2022-23 year, is no stranger to such allegations, as another teacher was arrested for a similar incident in September.
Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell expressed alarm at the indictment, "It is extremely concerning to me that teachers, who are in a position of power and trust, are manipulating and taking advantage of students," Mitchell said in a statement. Her office praised the cooperation between the Buckeye Police Department and prosecutors, ensuring Todd would face justice.
