A former teacher from Cy-Fair High School in Cypress, Texas, stands accused of engaging in a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student. The teacher, identified as 29-year-old Kayden Burbank, is currently being held in Harris County Jail on a $60,000 bond following his arrest. Court records indicate Burbank is charged with having an improper relationship with a student, a felony offense. According to Click2Houston, court documents allege the teacher engaged in sexual activity with the student on multiple occasions, both on and off campus.
The arrest stems from a report filed after Burbank's girlfriend reportedly found incriminating text messages on his phone. The girlfriend then disclosed this information to a woman who later reported it to the police. Investigations revealed that on multiple occasions, Burbank allegedly contacted the victim, with encounters happening in his classroom, and at a hotel close to the school. Burbank reportedly confessed to taking the student to lunch, but denied physical contact, according to the documents obtained by FOX 26 Houston. Burbank later retracted his willingness to speak to police without legal counsel present.
The school district placed Burbank on administrative leave on April 2, soon after the allegations surfaced, and he resigned a week later, on April 9. Details of the incidents were further corroborated when Cy-Fair ISD police officers reviewed school security footage and text message exchanges, confirming the student had left her second-period class to meet Burbank on at least one occasion as she described.
Furthermore, authorities indicated that Burbank took the student out of campus and brought her to a hotel where they engaged in sexual activities, as stated in the court documents reported by khou. The student told the police the sexual activity "began at 3:50 PM and finished at 4:22 PM.” After this, they "sat and cuddled before getting dressed and going back to the school." The hotel management confirmed a room reservation by Burbank on the date in question, matching the time period the student had given.
The Cypress-Fairbanks ISD released a statement concerning the resignation and charges against Mr. Burbank, "Mr. Kayden Burbank, a former teacher at Cy-Fair High School, resigned on April 9, 2024. Mr. Burbank was placed on administrative leave on April 2, 2024, pending a complete investigation by campus administration and law enforcement, after campus administration was made aware of allegations of an improper relationship between an educator and student." Burbank's next court appearance is scheduled for Thursday.
