Fort Worth kids are gearing up to knock it outta the park at the second annual Fun Over Guns | The Rube Foster Pitch, Hit & Run Competition. In a collaboration between the Fort Worth Park & Recreation and New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church, the event promises to be a home run, following the success of the inaugural competition last year. According to a recent announcement on the City of Fort Worth, talents will be scouted among the youth, ages 7-14, as inspired by Major League Baseball's skill contests.
Scheduled to start at noon on April 20, Gateway Park will play host to the hopeful stars, who can register online beforehand. Having attracted a slew of participants from all over Fort Worth the previous year, it's expected to draw a larger crowd, aiming to take a swing at greatness and possibly secure a spot on the national stage. The competition, touted for promoting teamwork and healthy competition, also allows participants, with their eyes on the ball, to potentially make it to the 2024 MLB World Series.
"We are excited to bring back this great opportunity for its second year," Kyev Tatum, pastor at New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church and member of the Fort Worth Park & Recreation Advisory Board, voiced his enthusiasm for the event's return, as per the City of Fort Worth.
The city's youth will not only get to demonstrate their Pitch, Hit & Run skills but also will be playing for a shot at being recognized on a prestigious platform.
