Residents in the Frisco area are being targeted by a fresh wave of phone scams from individuals posing as officials from the Frisco Police Department (FPD) or other law enforcement agencies. These scammers are using fear tactics, claiming the call recipients have outstanding subpoenas or warrants.
The fraudulent calls are sophisticated enough that they may appear legitimate on caller ID, displaying FPD's contact information. The scammers don't stop at calls, they're also leaving voicemails to solidify their deception. In a post shared by the Frisco Police Department, citizens were urged to stay vigilant, "DON'T FALL FOR IT!" they said making it clear that paying off supposed legal issues with prepaid gift cards is a tactic favored by con artists.
Phone scammers are again calling and pretending to be with FPD or law enforcement, saying you have a subpoena or warrant, and asking you to take care of it with a prepaid gift card. The calls may appear to be from FPD and the scammer may even leave a message. DON'T FALL FOR IT! pic.twitter.com/xDLoSwanyG

Authorities have emphasized that the Frisco Police Department, nor any legitimate law enforcement agency, would ever ask for payments via prepaid gift cards over the phone for subpoenas or warrants. As these calls continue to cause confusion and concern among residents, FPD is actively investigating the incidents and encourages anyone who has experienced such a call to report it directly to their local police department.
Phone scams remain a prevalent threat to personal security and finances, with scammers constantly developing new methods to exploit unsuspecting individuals. Law enforcement urges the public to hang up on suspicious calls and to not give out personal information or make payments based on telephonic demands. According to the FPD, the best defense against these scams is awareness, and an informed public is far less likely, to fall prey to these fraudulent schemes.
