In the midst of Republican disarray, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp has taken to social media to endorse House Speaker Mike Johnson. Tension within the party is high as Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene leads a charge to oust Johnson from his prominent role. Kemp, demonstrating little patience for the infighting, made his stance clear, saying Republicans need to focus on their legislative duties. "Instead of bickering amongst themselves and handing Democrats control of the House, Republicans should do their damn job and vote on the important issues facing our nation," Kemp directed on the platform X. The governor's proclamation, a response to Kentucky Congressman Thomas Massie's public backing of Greene's motion, surfaced in The Hill.

Support for Johnson comes amid his controversial decision to separate border security provisions from the aid packages for Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan, and other national security interests. This move, breaking ranks with some GOP members' earlier demands, has garnered him criticism. However, Democrats have hinted they'd help to keep Johnson in his position if the Ukraine aid was brought to the floor, putting an additional strain on GOP unity. Kemp's public support is seen as a high-caliber endorsement with the potential to rally undecided Republicans and to quickly cool the searing heat from within.

Several GOP lawmakers have publicly torched the bid to depose Johnson, arguing it's doomed to fail. Louisiana Representative Garret Graves has voiced that a majority consensus for a new speaker currently appears out of reach.
