Bikers of Gilbert, get ready to gear up for a month of eco-friendly fun. April has been christened Valley Bike Month, and Gilbert's very own trails are calling you to pedal your way to better health and community connection. The proclamation is scheduled to officially take place on April 16, when the Gilbert Town Council will declare the start of 2024 Bike Gilbert Month. This initiative is part of a broader focus to promote biking as not just a form of recreation, but also a viable commute option.
Gilbert proudly boasts a 50-mile trail network that weaves through parks, residential areas, and the enchanting Heritage District. Those eager to explore can easily find their path by checking out the bike map, according to the Town of Gilbert. But before you set out to join the celebration, it's worth noting a few crucial safety measures. It's recommended to always wear a properly fitted helmet and be sure to make yourself visible with reflective gear and lights when darkness encroaches.
If during your ride you find that your trusty steed needs a patch-up or a tweak, make a pit stop at one of the several bike repair stations sprinkled along the trails. Locations include the Western Canal trail, Eastern Canal rest stop, Consolidated Canal, Gilbert Regional Park, and a couple more, as noted by the Town of Gilbert. These spots are conveniently located along popular routes to ensure that you are never too far away from a quick fix.
Complementing the month-long festivities, a competitive edge has been added to incentivize frequent pedaling. The Valley Bike Month Challenge beckons cyclists to log their trips for a chance to win not just bragging rights, but also limited edition swag and gift cards.
