A tragic incident unfolded last year at a Portland TriMet station when a 63-year-old grandmother, in town for a family graduation, was sexually assaulted after an adverse reaction to medication left her unconscious, court documents reveal.
The woman, whose identity has not been made public to respect her privacy, had just arrived in Portland to celebrate her grandson's achievement when the combination of a new prescription and a glass of wine on her flight precipitated a horrific series of events according to KATU, after disembarking the MAX at PDX, she exited at Hillsboro Transit Center at around 8 p.m., and the medication she took reacted badly with the alcohol rendering her heavily intoxicated and vulnerable.
Eduardo Guillermo Madrid-Roque, 29, was arrested on April 9 and is now facing multiple charges, including six counts of sexual abuse, three counts of unlawful sexual penetration, and two counts of public indecency as reported by KOIN. Madrid-Roque allegedly took advantage of the situation at the transit center, assaulting the grandmother while she was unable to consent or defend herself.
The indictment details how the unsuspecting grandmother's attempt to attend her grandson’s graduation turned into a nightmare, after a single glass of wine and a change in her prescription medication combined to create a state of incoherence when she sat down on the sidewalk to remove her pants and eventually lay down, the poor interaction between the substances in her system causing her to be more intoxicated than one might expect, NBC 15 describes the situation as provided by the court documents.
Prosecutors are proceeding with the case against Madrid-Roque, who appeared in court Wednesday, however, no further details on the court proceedings have been disclosed. Authorities continue to investigate the assault and Madrid-Roque remains in custody pending further legal action.
