Houston residents should brace for a stormy start to the week, with forecasters predicting multiple rounds of severe weather sweeping across Texas and nearby regions. According to the National Weather Service, Houston can expect a "slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1pm," with today's high nearing 83 degrees amidst mostly cloudy skies and a south wind around 5 mph.
Tonight's likelihood of wet weather persists but drops to a 30 percent chance, mainly before 8pm, as the mostly cloudy conditions continue and a south wind blows at 5 to 10 mph. Houstonians looking ahead to Monday could be in for showers likely, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 11am. A high near 80 degrees is forecasted, complemented by a southeast wind of 5 to 15 mph, which could produce gusts as high as 20 mph, as the weather service reported.
The Storm Prediction Center notes there is a "slight risk of severe thunderstorms in the Southern Great Plains," indicating that early afternoon Monday through Tuesday morning could see a series of severe storms with potential threats such as "a few tornadoes, scattered large to very large hail, and isolated severe wind gusts" in the forecast area.
As residents prepare for the turbulent weather, they are reminded that Tuesday night will carry an 80 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms with a low around 65. The pattern of precipitation will likely continue until Wednesday morning before giving way to clearer skies. Widespread showers and thunderstorms will remain a concern until then, according to NWS Houston's X update. The brief respite will be welcomed Thursday with a sunny high near 79, and conditions expected to remain mostly clear into Friday night.
Mostly cloudy skies along with a warm humid air mass will remain in place across SE TX through tomorrow night. Scattered showers and isolated storms could develop by Sun afternoon as a weak front stalls just north of the region . #houwx #bcswx #glswx #txwx pic.twitter.com/9vLLkySAip
