Houston Braces for Weekend Thunderstorms as National Service Warns of 'Marginal Risk'Source: Google Street View

Houstonians might be looking to break out their rain gear for the weekend as a muddle of fog, clouds, and thunderstorms make their way into the Texas metropolis. According to the National Weather Service, today's weather in Houston will entail patchy fog early in the morning followed by mostly cloudy skies, with temperatures pushing the mercury to a high near 86 degrees. However, the calm before the storm won't last long, as there's a chance of thunderstorms rolling in by Saturday afternoon.

Residents should stay vigilant as the weekend approaches. The National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center highlighted a "marginal risk" of severe weather conditions, meaning sporadic thunderstorms could develop into more severe weather on Friday over parts of the Southeast, including the Houston area. "Sporadic strong to marginally severe storms are possible on Friday over parts of the Southeast," as the NWS Storm Prediction Center stated. A cold front is crawling towards Southeast Texas tonight but is expected to stall just north of the area, with some scattered storms possibly erupting around the Brazos Valley and Piney Woods regions overnight.

The forecast isn't all tempestuous, though. By Sunday following the passage of thunderstorms, locals can expect a drop in temperatures to a more spring-like high of 72, accompanied by mostly cloudy skies. Come Monday, Houston will see mostly sunny conditions with the high rebounding to a comfortable 76 degrees. The night, however, will bring partly cloudy skies and a low around 62.

The week continues to be a mix of sun and storms. Tuesday shows a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms, going up to a high near 82. And looking ahead, while next Wednesday also has a slim chance for more showers and thunderstorms, this potential bout of turbulent weather shouldn't stop the city from seeing partly sunny skies and highs creeping up to the mid-80s, as detailed by the National Weather Service's forecast. "Temperatures today will reach near 90°F in some spots as the warming trend continues," as posted by the NWS Houston on X, so it seems that for Houston, it's a classic case of April showers — and the unpredictability they bring.
