
A man has been charged in a deadly assault that occurred last year in North Houston, authorities said Wednesday.
Maximiliano Gamez, 43, faces a charge of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury after 59-year-old Andres Marroquin succumbed to injuries from an attack, the incident took place at 3940 North McCarty Street on the afternoon of June 26, 2023. According to a news release from the City of Houston, HPD officers discovered Marroquin unresponsive in a gas station parking lot.
Marroquin was immediately transported by Houston Fire Department paramedics to an area hospital where he was listed in critical condition. Despite the efforts of medical staff at Ben Taub General Hospital, he later died on November 1, 2023, due to the injuries sustained in the assault. "On Tuesday (April 9), members of the HPD North Division Crime Suppression Team arrested Gamez and he was subsequently charged for his role in this incident." the report stated, detailing the culmination of an investigation that eventually pointed to Gamez as the prime suspect in Marroquin's death.
Sergeant J. Stroble and Detective K. Collier from the HPD Homicide Division along with Detectives R. Cook and D. Solis from the Major Assaults and Family Violence Division led the inquiry that implicated Gamez. Following the attack, the suspect had reportedly fled the scene in a vehicle, before being apprehended almost a year later. Gamez is now set to face justice in the 179th State District Court.
