A tragic incident unfolded over the weekend as a man lost his life in a high-speed collision with an ambulance on Houston's North Freeway. The Houston Police Department is currently investigating the crash that occurred in the early hours of Saturday at the 13800 block of North Interstate Highway 45.
According to City of Houston News, the victim is a 33-year-old man whose name has yet to be released, pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. The Houston Fire Department ambulance was tending to a separate accident scene, its emergency lights flashing when the man's silver Toyota Rav4 slammed into it at what was described as "a high rate of speed." The Rav4 then careened into a concrete barrier, fatally injuring the driver.
None of the emergency responders who were at the scene of the first accident suffered any harm as a result of the secondary crash. Sergeant M. Sudduth and Officer R. Guzman of the HPD Vehicular Crimes Division, have taken the lead in the ongoing inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the devastating event. The investigation remains active. with authorities hoping to piece together the moments leading up to the collision, and provide answers to a grieving family left in the wake of this untimely tragedy.
