An 18-year-old man has been snagged by the cops and faces murder and assault raps after a fatal gas station shooting that left a teenager dead and rattled the local community. The accused gunman, Periche Roshal Barley, was arrested two months after the young blood, Ruben Estrada, just 17, was gunned down inside a vehicle in North Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.
The incident unfolded on the evening of February 21 at around 8:05 p.m. at a gas station located on Ella Boulevard. Estrada was found critically wounded and later kicked the bucket at a nearby hospital, as the City of Houston News reported. Barley, who is now cooling his heels in the Harris County Jail, is slapped with one count of murder, and four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Witnesses at the scene told detectives that Barley allegedly fired multiple shots into Estrada's vehicle, striking him fatally while the other passengers, all teenagers, were lucky enough to escape unscathed. Eyewitness accounts and evidence gathered at the crime scene helped the sleuths identify Barley as the shooter, and charges were promptly filed by the Harris County District Attorney's Office on April 14.
Barley's run from the law came to an end on April 15, when the HPD North Belt Crime Suppression Team located him at 8430 Antoine Drive. Things got heated as Barley allegedly pointed a weapon at the officers, prompting one sergeant to discharge his duty weapon, in an incident where luckily, no one was hit, the news release detailed.
