As Houston residents brace for a week of variable weather, they can expect a gradual warm-up with some wind to contend with. Today's forecast in Houston calls for mostly cloudy skies and a high near 69, accompanied by a north wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph, while tonight will see a shift to partly cloudy with a low around 53 and similar gust conditions, as reported by the NWS.
Looking ahead to Monday, the city is told to expect sunny conditions with a high near 71, and the clear skies will linger into Monday night as the temperature dips to a low around 54, things will heat up later in the week with highs moving into the low 80s and Friday likely to be breezy, by Saturday, temperatures are anticipated to reach a warmer 86 degrees also breezy. These fluctuations in temperature come as another part of the South deals with severe weather threats; the NWS Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma, announced that there is a "marginal risk of severe thunderstorms" for central and southern Florida on Monday, with strong thunderstorms potentially producing severe wind gusts and hail, according to their latest outlook.
In a related forecast, portions of Texas are dealing with severe weather conditions of their own; a special weather statement has been issued for Bay City, Sweeny, and Van Vleck in Texas until 2:45 a.m. CDT due to a deluge of widespread storms in the Brazos Valley that has already resulted in pockets of heavy rainfall, with rain rates of 1-3 inches per hour, minor urban and small stream flooding is a concern with a Flood Watch in effect until 4 a.m., as per the National Weather Service Houston on X.
