
A tragic accident has left a community in mourning after a 22-month-old girl was killed in a driveway incident over the weekend in Houston. The Houston Police Department reports that a black Ford Escape, driven by a 37-year-old woman, backed up and fatally struck the toddler who was playing unobserved behind the vehicle at a residence at 12000 Clifton Oaks Drive.
According to details provided by the City of Houston News, the tragic event transpired around 2:10 p.m. on Saturday, and the victim has been identified as Brooklyn Hughes, a 22-month-old girl, she was promptly transported to an area hospital after the incident but was soon pronounced deceased there, Houston's Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant V. Vo and Officer C. Vargas conducted preliminary investigations which indicated the somber reality of the young life cut short.
The driver, who reportedly did not notice Brooklyn behind her vehicle, was questioned by authorities following the accident and has been released. A spokesperson from the Houston police relayed the information that after discussions with the Harris County District Attorney's Office, the case's circumstances will now be brought before a Harris County grand jury to determine the course of legal proceedings.
