Sandy Springs police had their hands full with an impaired driver, who kept on trucking on just a tire rim after blowing out a tire, authorities said. The ill-advised joyride, which unfolded back in January, ended in the driver's arrest after a brief but futile attempt to outrun the officers on a major roadway.
According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the police patrolling Roswell Road spotted the vehicle and noticed signs of impairment. It soon became clear that the car was driving on the rim, sparking an attempt by the officer to pull over the recklessly moving vehicle. But the driver quickened their pace before the car finally gave out, unable to continue its escape on the mangled wheel.
The police used this incident as a cautionary tale against driving under the influence. "In Sandy Springs, driving while impaired is not a game. Please think twice before getting behind the wheel while under the influence of any substance," the department expressed in a released statement. Remarkably, despite the potential for tragedy, the incident did not result in any injuries.
While the identity and age of the driver were withheld, what's not secret is the legal trouble they're now in. As reported by WSB-TV, the driver has been charged following the arrest. Dashcam footage captured the harrowing drive, the blown tire, and the subsequent police pursuit that unfolded like a scene far from desirable reality. The Sandy Springs Police Department reminds the community that driving impaired is a choice with serious consequences, one that can lead not only to arrests but also to danger for all on the road.
