Injury and Power Outages in Hillsboro Following Two-Car Collision, Cornell Road Reopens After RepairsSource: Facebook/Hillsboro Police Department

A two-car collision in Hillsboro on Monday afternoon not only left an individual injured but also resulted in significant power outages after the impact caused multiple power poles to tumble, authorities reported. The incident, which transpired shortly before 3:30 p.m. on Northeast Cornell Road, prompted a response from emergency crews to address the ensuing electrical and safety hazards.

The Hillsboro Police Department stated that the downed lines trapped two cars that were not involved in the initial crash, leaving passengers to wait for assistance from Portland General Electric (PGE) and fire crews. As per KATU News, the occupants remained inside their vehicles until it was safe to exit. An injured party was transported to the hospital, with expectations of survival.

Following the accident, Northeast Cornell Road was closed for several hours, reopening later in the evening. The Hillsboro Police reported that one driver was taken to a local hospital with non-critical injuries, according to KPTV. Three cars, including two occupied vehicles, found themselves trapped due to the crash but were later safely evacuated.

While the power outage affected numerous PGE customers, services were restored after some hours. "At least three power poles were affected by the crash," the police added, hinting at the scale of the incident. Commuters faced road closures on Northeast Cornell Road between Northeast Grant Street and Northeast Arrington Road, with authorities suggesting alternative routes, as advised in a KGW report. The road was expected to be closed for several hours in response to the clean-up and repair operations necessitated by the accident.
