In what turned into a harrowing tale of a carjacking turned highway pursuit, the Vallejo Police Department reports the arrest of two juveniles on charges related to the armed theft of a Dodge Avenger. According to the department's statement, the ordeal began on April 234, when a male suspect reportedly armed with a firearm accosted the vehicle's owner near the intersection of Halliday Street and Cassady Street; the perpetrator demanded the victim abandon the car under gunpoint, making off with the vehicle after the confrontation.
The wayward journey of the stolen vehicle came to an end on April 25 when Vallejo PD officers, spotting the Avenger near Tennessee Street and Humbolt Street, tried pulling over the suspects who, in lieu of heeding law enforcement, led on a chase that culminated in a collision with another car and the highway's center median on I80 close to the Gilman St. exit in Berkeley this whole incident unfolded before bewildered commuters. In a desperate attempt to evade capture after the wreck, the young suspects took a dangerous dash across the busy expressway and sought refuge on the Golden Gate Fields property.
Once a perimeter was securely in place, authorities were quick to apprehend the duo; this successful operation was thanks to the collaborative efforts of Vallejo Police, the California Highway Patrol, Pinole PD, and Berkeley PD, who all played vital roles in the resolution of this incident, as recounted on the Vallejo PD's Facebook page. Despite the fraught nature of the circumstances, officers managed to avoid any serious injuries to themselves or others involved.
After the chase came to its dramatic finish, it was discovered that not only were the perpetrators juvenile, but their ill-planned escapade had run its course. The parents of these young lawbreakers were immediately contacted and informed of the situation. Post-medical clearance from a local hospital, the juveniles were transported to Solano County Juvenile Detention Facility, and the victim of the carjacking was notified regarding the towing of his vehicle from the scene of the accident.
