A LaGrange man has been slapped with charges after allegedly beating a woman multiple times, resulting in serious brain trauma, local police reported. The incident unfolded between March 22 and March 24, but it wasn't until midnight on March 27 that officers were called to the 1500 block of Vernon Road to confront the violent aftermath.
John Houston Whitworth is the man accused of the brutal assault on Cecilia Hyatt, who police say suffered a severe brain injury due to repeated violence. The LaGrange Police Department has worked diligently to quickly piece together the harrowing events, leading to an arrest on April 1. Despite the grim circumstances, officials have indicated that Hyatt is being treated and is currently stable. FOX 5 Atlanta provided the details of the charges Whitworth faces, including Aggravated Assault and Aggravated Battery.
According to WTVM, the investigation determined that Whitworth allegedly, and with malicious intent, delivered the beatings that left Hyatt in critical condition.
As police continue to comb through the evidence and fortify their case, there's a call to action for anyone who might have insights that could shed further light on the incident. The LaGrange Police Department has encouraged witnesses or those with information to come forward, to possibly help prevent such tragedies from unfolding in the future.
