LaGRANGE, GA - A local man has been slapped with a litany of charges following a drag racing crash in Troup County that left two dead and several injured. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, Willie David Rhodes Jr., 45, now faces the consequences after the reckless event on March 10.
Rhodes was identified as the driver of a Chevrolet S-10, accused of racing another vehicle, swerving, and then colliding with a Chevrolet Trailblazer. The parked Trailblazer, populated with four spectators, bore the brunt of a fatal encounter. The arrest came after investigative collaboration with the Georgia State Patrol. Rhodes has been charged with failure to remain in right lane, leaving the scene of an accident, two counts of reckless driving, three counts of serious injury by vehicle, along with two counts of homicide by vehicle, laying drag, and racing on highways or streets. These details emerged from a report by Atlanta News First.
On Monday, Rhodes found himself behind bars at the Troup County Jail. "I want to thank my team of investigators for working around the clock with our partners at the Georgia State Patrol to help identify this individual that was responsible for causing the deaths and injuries from this illegal and unfortunate event that took place," Sheriff James Woodruff told FOX 5 Atlanta.
