A Lithonia tragedy has come to a somber close as 23-year-old Shanae Smith succumbed to her injuries after being shot in the head by her boyfriend, authorities reported. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, Smith was identified by friends and family, and the shooting occurred just before 3 p.m. on Saturday at the intersection of Field Drive and Chupp Lane.
Accused in her death is Smith’s boyfriend, 24-year-old Keire Schloss, who, as of late Sunday afternoon, had not been apprehended by DeKalb County police. Residing together in a townhouse at the crime scene, the two were involved in what police are calling a domestic violence incident. Having heard a single gunshot, Sunshine Allen, a neighbor, told FOX 5, "I pray for both sides of the families. We just need to come together more as a union and just stop this gun violence. I'm just praying that he turn himself in, if that's the case, because it's best, you know. But like I said, we have two families that's going through right now."
In a separate but eerily similar turn of events, DeKalb County Police announced an arrest in the shooting death of a woman found inside a vehicle following a reported car crash on Apr. 10. Before her death, the victim managed to tell the responding officers who had shot her. This led to the swift arrest of DeLana Young, whom 11Alive confirms now faces murder charges and remains in DeKalb County Jail.
Authorities urge that anyone with information on Schloss' whereabouts to contact law enforcement immediately.
