
Tragedy struck on a Houston roadway yesterday evening when a 44-year-old male cyclist was killed in a collision at 2900 South Wayside Drive. The incident, which occurred around 6:50 p.m., involved the bicyclist riding northbound against traffic in a southbound lane when he was hit by a black Chevrolet Tahoe, as reported by the Houston Police Department.
The driver of the Tahoe, a 61-year-old male, was making a left turn onto South Wayside Drive from Brock Road when the fatal interaction took place. According to Houston officials, the man did not exhibit signs of intoxication at the scene. He was questioned and subsequently released, as no charges have been filed at this time.
Emergency responders rushed the injured cyclist to an area hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The name of the deceased has not yet been released, pending identification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant R. Dallas and officers from the Southeast Patrol Division are continuing their investigation into the circumstances of the crash.
