A manhunt is underway in Clio after a suspect robbed the Rite Aid Pharmacy at gunpoint on Sunday afternoon, local police report. The Clio Police Department has released a description of the suspect and is urging anyone with information to come forward.
The suspect, described as a 5-foot-10 black male weighing around 160 pounds, entered the Rite Aid on Vienna St. and briefly left after surveying the number of people inside, Clio Police Department said. He returned when fewer customers were present to carry out the robbery. The man handed the clerk a note — which claimed he was armed with a gun and demanded money from the cash register, alongside activating two prepaid Visa cards for sums of $500 and $300.
"The suspect took the cards, cash, and the note and fled the store," according to a statement from the Clio Police Department. The total loss incurred during the incident is estimated to be $1,500. He was last seen escaping in a small, dark-colored SUV, potentially heading northbound on Mill Street.
The incident has rattled the small community, with residents expressing concern over the brazen daylight robbery. ABC12 reports that the suspect managed the transaction without the clerk being immediately aware of the robbery, due to the subtlety of the note passed which claimed the presence of a firearm. This technique allowed the suspect to avoid immediate attention and make a swift exit.
Law enforcement officials have not released further details on the identity of the suspect but are combing through surveillance footage and seeking tips from the public. Anyone with information on the robbery or the suspect's whereabouts is strongly encouraged to contact the Clio Police Department at 810-686-5010 or to dial 911 about CPD Case Number 24-084.
