A manhunt is underway for a 24-year-old suspect, Edward Lee Washington, following the shooting of a woman in what authorities are calling a domestic dispute turned violent at an apartment complex on Dunlap Street this past weekend.

The incident, which occurred at approximately 9:40 a.m. Sunday, left a 47-year-old woman wounded and in a stable condition after being rushed to a hospital. According to the City of Houston News, the suspect, who is still at large, has been charged with aggravated assault of a family member in the 248th State District Court.

Investigators at the Houston Police Department’s Major Assaults & Family Violence Division have pieced together a narrative from the morning's events. Detective B. Phan indicated that "HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting call at an apartment complex at the above address and learned the victim had been shot and transported by paramedics to the hospital." A preliminary probe by officials suggested that the victim and Washington, reportedly common-law married, were embroiled in a confrontation outside their residence when the shooting occurred.

Police statements reveal a family member heard a gunshot and discovered the victim injured, identifying Washington as the alleged shooter before he fled the scene. A 2021 booking photo of Washington accompanies the press release, likely in an effort to expedite the public's help in locating him.
