A young man's life was cut short after a brutal car crash in Southborough, Massachusetts. The 23-year-old Marlborough man was pronounced dead at the scene of a single-vehicle accident that erupted in flames on Sunday morning near 103 Main St. according to local authorities.
The Southborough Police and Fire Department were dispatched to the fiery scene where they found the vehicle fully engulfed and the driver pinned inside. The name of the victim is yet to be released, as officials are still investigating the tragic incident. A report from WCVB notes that the crash prompted repairs to a damaged utility pole and wires by National Grid and Verizon, disrupting local traffic into Monday morning.
According to MassLive, the accident took place in a residential area known for its narrow, two-lane road flanked by homes and natural barriers. The crash is currently under joint investigation by the Southborough Police and the Massachusetts State Police.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim's family and friends at this time," Police Chief Ryan M. Newell said in a statement obtained by MassLive. Cleanup and repair efforts continued into the subsequent day, with at least one lane remaining closed to through traffic.
