Mesa Public Library Joins Forces with United Food Bank to Combat Hunger in ArizonaSource: Google Street View

In Arizona, where the sting of hunger doesn't discriminate, affecting 1 in 9 people and even more concerningly, 1 in 6 children, a new initiative steps up to the plate. Mesa Public Library has teamed up with Mesa's United Food Bank to tackle this pervasive issue head-on. Announced in a recent statement by the library, a food drive will be launched, running from April 22 to April 27, dedicated to collecting non-perishable foods.

This food drive, looking to replenish the stocks of nutritious food for Arizonans in need, invites local residents to contribute various non-perishable food items. Dropping off food at any Mesa Public Library location could afford someone their next meal. With rates of hunger soaring, the list of most-needed items includes but is not limited to cereals, oatmeal, chilis, and even canned fruits and vegetables.

"You can help support your community by dropping off non-perishable food items at any of our locations from Monday, April 22 through the close of business on Saturday, April 27," urged the library's call to action. It's a bid to gather the sustenance that might bridge the gap between hardship and hope for many, reflecting the library's commitment to not just feeding the mind, but the body as well.

Items that will be turned away include glass jars, any baby food, or food that has been previously opened. Peanut butter, beans, canned or dried milk, and rice and pasta are among the essentials needed, which can be easily stored and distributed without risk of spoilage. By providing these staple items, people can significantly aid families who are struggling to make ends meet, stressed the library. For those unsure about what to give, the library’s latest initiative also runs parallel to a similarly vital quest for human connection and support in times of need.
