Metropolitan Police Release Body Cam Footage of Officer-Involved Shooting in Northeast WashingtonSource: Google Street View

The Metropolitan Police Department of D.C. has made public the body camera footage capturing the moment an officer shot a man after a frenzied pursuit in northeast Washington. The encounter, which occurred on April 1st just before 9 p.m. in the 2100 block of Bladensburg Road, commenced when officers spotted an altercation and attempted to stop Deion Hinnant, who they report was embroiled in the conflict and armed. FOX 5 DC provided the disturbing visuals.

As indicated by the released video, Officer Bryan Madera, while in the midst of the chase, can be heard warning, “I’m going to shoot you.” Following the shots fired, the footage concludes with the image of someone on the ground, apparently attempting to rise. The Washington Post reports that court documents reveal this encounter, depicting only fragments of the events confirmed by police.

Following the incident, Hinnant, 31, was taken into custody and hospitalized. Later, he faced charges by the U.S. attorney’s office for unlawful possession of a firearm due to a previous conviction and was ordered to remain detained with a hearing set for Tuesday. Efforts made to contact Hinnant's family have been unsuccessful, and his defense attorney has not provided comment, as conveyed by The Washington Post.

In the aftermath of the chase, witnessed by a drive-through lane where Hinnant collapsed, police detained him before he received medical attention. Officers claim to have retrieved a loaded black Hi-Point 9mm handgun from Hinnant at the scene. In addition, suspected drugs, a digital scale, and $124 in cash were found on him. The police have yet to release details regarding the number of shots fired or where Hinnant was hit. ShotSpotter devices, however, detected eight shots at the same time and location as the incident.
