Michigan Woman Finds $227,000 Lottery Jackpot Email in Junk Folder, Plans Investment and Home ProjectsSource: Google Street View

In what could have been a miss of lottery proportions, a Saginaw County woman in Michigan found herself to be the lucky winner of a $227,000 jackpot after checking her junk email folder. The 56-year-old, who chose to keep her identity under wraps, initially received a voicemail from the Michigan Lottery, which she initially dismissed as it was from an unrecognized number.

"When I listened to it and it was the Michigan Lottery informing me I'd won a $227,383 prize, I didn’t know what to think," the winner said in a statement obtained by ClickOnDetroit. Skeptical of the voicemail's claims, she expected to find additional notifications in her lottery account or email that would confirm the news. However, her regular inbox left her none the wiser. It was only after rummaging through her junk mail that she found the golden ticket—an email from the Michigan Lottery confirming her windfall.

According to her interview with ABC12, the lucky lady had already attempted her luck with no success in the first chance games, but fortune favored her in the BIG CA$H Second Chance Jackpot drawing. After verifying the email's authenticity over a weekend of research, she reached out to the lottery officials to claim her prize.

The windfall couldn't have come at a more opportune moment for the winner, she conveyed to lottery officials. "I can't describe how much of a relief it is to win," she told Patch. Intent on using her new-found financial flexibility, she plans on completing home projects and making some canny investments.
