Oakland County Man Charged with Indecent Exposure After Alleged Lewd ActSource: Bloomfield Township Police

A 52-year-old man was hit with indecent exposure charges after he was caught allegedly performing a lewd act on the side of a road in Oakland County, Bloomfield Township police confirmed. The suspect, Gregory Benson, was reported to have been laying in a ditch on Opdyke Road on April 8, when a passerby mistook him for hurt and stopped to assist, according to a Detroit News report.

Police said the witness believed Benson was in distress and "turned around to check on him." It was then that Benson "started walking toward him" with his pants down, engaging in the act of masturbation, as the WWJ Newsradio detailed. Arrested shortly after the incident, Benson was discovered to also have several warrants out for his arrest for offenses including burglary, retail fraud, and open intoxicants.

Benson's behavior has now led to him facing additional charges. He was arraigned through the 48th District Court, where he was slapped with a $10,000 bond and specific instructions to not leave Michigan without court permission, "nor to possess firearms or other dangerous weapons," as The Detroit News stated.

Currently, Benson remains behind bars at the Oakland County Jail. His pretrial hearing has been calendared for Tuesday, where he will face the music for his alleged public misconduct. According to FOX 2 Detroit, the indecent exposure charge specifically stems from Benson's actions involving the would-be Good Samaritan who had attempted to do a good deed only to be confronted with an obscene display.
