The Berkeley Police Department has charged a 52-year-old Oakland man in connection with a shooting that occurred two weeks ago in West Berkeley. According to authorities, the arrest was made on April 22 following an intensive investigation led by local detectives.
The trouble began midday, April 11, when a spat over a parking space escalated dangerously in front of an apartment complex at the 900 block of Channing Way. A witness recounted how, after the heated exchange, the suspect allegedly let off a single shot at the victim while making his getaway. The victim was unharmed.
Despite the near miss, the bullet did not simply vanish into the aether—it struck the façade of the occupied residence behind the intended target. Inside at the time of the shooting were several individuals, potentially inches from harm's way. This grim fact was detailed by the Berkeley Police Department in a social media post outlining the incident.
With an arrest warrant, the Department's Special Response Team members set out on a mission and successfully apprehended the suspect in Oakland on April 22. Subsequently, the Alameda County District Attorney's Office levied serious charges against the alleged shooter, including shooting from a motor vehicle, assault with a firearm, and shooting at an occupied dwelling.
