A night out turned sour when Atlantiss McNeil, a 24-year-old woman from Olive Branch, Mississippi, was arrested for allegedly assaulting a security guard and biting a sheriff's deputy at The Half Shell restaurant in southeast Memphis. The incident, which took place just after midnight on Saturday, sparked multiple charges against McNeil, including assault, two counts of assault on a first responder, public intoxication, and resisting official detention.
According to Action News 5, McNeil was attempting to aid a friend, reported to have been intoxicated, when an unidentified man who had previously bought them drinks began to intrude. McNeil's request for the man to step away was allegedly ignored. This is when the situation escalated, and a security guard intervened, only to be reportedly punched by McNeil. "The security guard approached her aggressively with no context of the situation," McNeil told police, as stated in the affidavit. A fight between McNeil and the security guard ensued inside the popular seafood restaurant.
Deputies responding to the scene attempted to detain McNeil and were met with resistance. It was during this struggle that McNeil was accused of punching a deputy twice in the face and biting another on the hand. An affidavit, as reported by FOX13 Memphis, states that McNeil was "heavily intoxicated or under the influence" at the time of the altercation.
After the altercation was contained, McNeil was subsequently arrested and booked. She was later released on a $5,000 bond. The account of the restaurant's security guard, as per WREG, claimed that McNeil and another individual were arguing, prompting the guard to ask both to leave, which McNeil refused and allegedly became violent.
