Tragedy struck on the streets of Atlanta Thursday when gunfire erupted on Westchester Boulevard, leaving one man dead and another with minor injuries. According to a FOX 5 report, the incident unfolded around 4 p.m., drawing swift response from local police who found multiple victims upon arrival. Lt. Chris Hewitt with Atlanta Police said that while one man was pronounced dead at the scene, the second victim was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in stable condition, having suffered a graze wound.
Atlanta authorities are actively piecing together the details of the case, searching for witnesses and trying to identify those involved. Preliminary assessments by the police suggest a targeted attack. "This wasn't random. We do believe this was connected at this point," Lt. Hewitt told FOX 5. As the chaos ensued, a woman on the scene named Keisha Green expressed her anxiety to FOX 5, being on the scene with family present, she had not yet seen her nieces and nephews.
No names have been released by officials, leaving a community in search of answers. However, a Channel 2 interview reveals a grief-stricken woman claiming to be the mother of the dead man's children has identified him as Loubens Exantus. Aged 46, the slain man was believed to have been embroiled in an unresolved conflict with a neighbor. "She identified him as Loubens Exantus, 46. She said she believed the shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute with a neighbor across the street," according to Channel 2's report.
In the search for clarity and justice, the Atlanta Police Department urges anyone with information to step forward. An off-camera statement obtained by FOX 5 from a resident in a nearby apartment complex confirms hearing the gunfire that afternoon.
