A burst of gunfire in northwest Atlanta on Sunday evening left one man dead and another wounded, as police probe into the deadly incident, authorities said. The Atlanta Police Department received reports of multiple shots fired and responded to the 700 block of Joseph E. Boone Boulevard NW just before 6 p.m, according to 11Alive.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered two men with gunshot wounds, a 31-year-old victim, who was alert and able to speak, was quickly transported to the hospital with a wound to the back. The other, a 44-year-old man, was pronounced dead on the scene, police informed FOX 5 Atlanta. Despite the swift response by emergency services, the gravity of the situation had already charted its irreversible course.
The Atlanta Police Department's homicide investigators are actively working the case to determine what led to the shooting. Details on what precipitated the bloodshed are still unknown, and authorities haven’t released information on potential suspects or motives behind the violent interruption of peace on Joseph E. Boone Boulevard.
"APD said investigators with its homicide unit responded to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident," FOX 5 Atlanta reported, and the investigation, it remains ongoing. Area residents are shaken as the all too familiar tapestry of crime scene tape once again decorates their neighborhood, a visual testament to yet another act of violence slicing through the fabric of their community.
