A chilling familial tragedy unfolded in a Phoenix neighborhood yesterday when a 27-year-old woman allegedly stabbed a family member to death. Phoenix Police Department reported the victim, identified as 75-year-old Ruby Pittman, was found with fatal stab wounds in a residence near 51st Avenue and Thomas Road. The suspect in the killing, Icess Woodcox, purportedly called 911 herself to confess to the crime just before 1:40 p.m., as per information released by FOX 10 Phoenix.
Upon arrival, officers discovered Pittman deceased at the scene, reportedly succumbing to at least one stab wound. Sgt. Rob Scherer of the Phoenix Police said, "Officers located the home and made entry finding an adult female, later identified as 75-year-old Ruby Pittman, with at least one stab wound. Pittman did not survive her injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene," in a statement obtained by FOX 10 Phoenix. The precise relationship between Woodcox and Pittman remains unclear, with officials yet to confirm the exact familial ties.
Woodcox was quickly taken into custody and has been charged with murder. Investigators are to continue piecing together the events leading up to the fatal altercation. The suspect was booked into jail following her admission to authorities regarding her role in Pittman's death, as reported by 12 News.
