Local green thumbs on alert – a frost advisory is set to put a chill on the Portland area, potentially nipping sensitive plants in the bud. The National Weather Service in Portland has issued a statement, warning that from 11 PM this evening to 9 AM PDT Wednesday, temperatures are expected to quickly drop to create frost conditions according to the advisory obtained by NWS Portland Oregon.

Residents in northwest and west central Oregon, as well as southwest Washington, should prepare to completely cover their tender vegetation to prevent what could be a damaging frost.

The frost advisory comes amidst an otherwise clear and warming forecast for the region. After the frosty start Wednesday morning, the weather is set to warm up with sunny skies and a high near 63. The warming trend is expected to continue with Thursday and Friday bringing even higher temperatures, peaking around 70 to 72 degrees, and sunny conditions prevailing before the weekend brings a chance of showers, reports NWS Portland Oregon.

As the area transitions between the cool and warmer periods, winds are predicted to pick up, especially on Thursday night when gusts might reach as high as 20 mph. The warm-up will not just bring sunnier days but also slightly warmer nights with Thursday and Friday night lows hovering around the high 40s, a relief from near-freezing temperatures that have prompted the current frost advisory.

For those looking ahead, the weekend may offer a mixed bag weather-wise. A chance of showers is expected on Saturday with "mostly sunny" conditions and a high near 68. But don't put the umbrellas away just yet – the chance of showers could linger into Saturday night before giving way to mostly sunny skies on Sunday," said NWS Portland Oregon
