A Rochester woman's unsettling obsession with a man she frequently saw at a local gym turned violent when she attacked his girlfriend with a firearm, authorities said. Jie Yu, 52, has been charged with multiple offenses, including felonious assault and aggravated stalking, after she allegedly pistol-whipped another woman last Friday.

The victim, a 35-year-old woman from Hazel Park, recalled the terrifying moment when Yu, posing as a DoorDash delivery person, approached her vehicle under the guise of asking for directions. The encounter quickly turned violent as the woman was struck with a pistol, according to a report by Patch. The attacker then made a getaway in a gray Ford F-150 truck.

In response to the assault, police located Yu at her residence. During an interrogation, Yu reportedly admitted visiting Hazel Park because she "wanted to scare" the younger woman, as stated by Local WWJ Newsradio. However, her accounts were inconsistent, casting doubt on her narrative as police delved deeper into the incident.

Further investigation revealed a more sinister aspect of Yu's obsession. Detectives found packaging for a tracking device at Yu's home and subsequently discovered actual devices attached to the cars of both the victim and her boyfriend. The Detroit News reported that Yu had developed "an infatuation with the victim's boyfriend from seeing him at the fitness gym" and had been stalking the pair prior to the assault.

Yu's bond was set at $1 million, and she remains in custody, facing grave charges that include not only the physical assault but also two counts of possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and unrelated motor vehicle tracking device violations. Neither the court date for the accused nor her legal representation has been disclosed at this time.
