The San Antonio Brahmas' offensive lineup has taken a hit as starting quarterback Chase Garbers will be sitting out the remainder of the season after sustaining a wrist injury. Garbers, 24, led the Brahmas to a 2-1 record, topping several league passing categories including completions, passing attempts, touchdown passes, and completion percentage.
The injury occurred in a game against the St. Louis Battlehawks while Garbers was running out of bounds after being hit by a defensive lineman, according to KSAT. Despite the injury, he continued playing through the game that ended in a 31-24 defeat.
With Garbers out, Boerne High School alum Quinten Dormady has been listed as the backup, while the team may look to bring in additional support. Garbers, who went undrafted in 2022 and had a stint with the Las Vegas Raiders, signed with the Brahmas and quickly became a critical player, renowned for his mobility and versatile throwing capacity.
Despite his injury, Garbers appeared at the postgame news conference where he discussed the team's outlook. "We’re playing football. It's really, really hard to win every game. We lost one game, in Week 3. It doesn’t hurt us," Garbers told the Express News. "Going forward we have to clean up our mistakes and clean them up for next week."
The Brahmas are facing a plethora of injuries this season with their starting center Alex Mollette and kicker Donald De La Haye also on injured reserve. In addition to the losses, 12 players were listed on the previous week's injury report and the team was without two defensive starters in their last game.
San Antonio is geared to host the Michigan Panthers at the Alamodome this Saturday as they attempt to navigate through the rest of their season with their adjusted roster.
