San Antonio Drivers Alert: Major Weekend Closures at Loop 1604 and I-10 for Bridge ConstructionSource: Facebook/Texas Department of Transportation (San Antonio)

Traffic in San Antonio is gearing up for another major slowdown this weekend, as road warriors brace for a round of closures on the far Northwest Side. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has confirmed that significant bridge construction for the large-scale Loop 1604 North Expansion Project will shut down parts of the interchange between Loop 1604 and I-10. The closure will take effect from Friday, April 19th at 9:00 pm until Monday, April 22nd at 5:00 am.

According to a report by Fox San Antonio, the closures will include all westbound and eastbound cloverleaf ramps connecting to Loop 1604, the Loop 1604 westbound and eastbound collector-distributor lanes, as well as the I-10 westbound frontage road at the Loop 1604 interchange. TxDOT is asking motorists to use frontage roads to circumvent, the interchange, but they should expect congestion.

For those traveling on Loop 1604, suggested alternatives are to exit before Vance Jackson or Callaghan Road if going eastbound, or before La Cantera or Braunfels Parkway if headed westbound. I-10 travelers are also advised to consider alternative routes. Those going northbound may use Highway 281, and those heading southbound should exit at Callaghan Road to use local streets. The advice is given in anticipation of delays, and travelers are encouraged to adjust their plans accordingly.

KSAT has detailed information on detours, as TxDOT gears up to install steel beams for a second flyover ramp during this period of construction. This aims to keep, the main lanes of I-10 at the interchange open in both directions, unlike the previous weekend's full closure. Local law enforcement will be on-site to guide drivers through the intersections during this time.

With additional major closures scheduled for the remaining weekends in April, the Loop 1604 and I-10 interchange is expected to be a hot spot for delays as crews install around 20 steel beams needed for flyover ramp construction. Though schedules are subject to change depending on weather, four segments of the Loop 1604 North Expansion are currently undergoing construction. Motorists in San Antonio should stay tuned for any updates and be ready for potential adjustments in their weekend travel itinerary.
