Flames tore through a Southwest Side home in the wee hours of Wednesday morning, prompting a swift response from San Antonio fire crews. The conflagration, which was reported around 2 a.m. in the 200 block of McLaughlin Avenue near Southwest Military Drive, unleashed heavy smoke and fire that were visible upon the arrival of firefighters, according to KENS 5.
The blaze, which gutted the residence, was especially challenging as the home was empty at the time. The owner's son, who had been looking after the place for the past several days, was not present, ensuring that there were no reported injuries. Despite the fortunate lack of bodily harm, the fire dealt a heavy blow to the property, racking up an estimated $75,000 in damages, as per fire officials cited by FOX San Antonio.
The cause of the inferno remains a mystery, with investigators currently combing through the charred remains for clues.
