Tragedy has struck a San Antonio community after the fatal shooting of a teenager, with the arrest of a second individual implicated in the case. Diego Salazar, 17, was taken into custody on allegations of murder related to a botched shoe sale that ended in the death of 18-year-old Ricky De Los Santos, as reported by Fox San Antonio.
The Bexar County Sheriff's Office, which has been investigating the incident since last Saturday, believes Salazar was the driver who transported Daniel Hernandez to the victim's home, leading to the fatal encounter. The shooting, which occurred in the 2000 block of S Loop 1604 E, involved Hernandez allegedly firing a Draco AK-47 at De Los Santos, a childhood friend, over a sneaker transaction gone wrong. Salazar's role, as suspected by authorities, was in aiding Hernandez's travel to the scene of the crime.
In a heart-wrenching twist, the victim managed to identify his assailant with his dying breaths. "Upon arrival, De Los Santos was able to provide deputies with Hernandez’s name during his final moments alive," Sheriff Javier Salazar was quoted in a statement obtained by KSAT. Hernandez was promptly charged with murder following the victim's identification.
It has been revealed through ongoing investigations that Hernandez and De Los Santos had maintained a close friendship since their childhood, adding a layer of tragedy to the event.
