San Diegans can expect a warm-up this weekend with some stubborn morning clouds sticking to the coast before a low-pressure system moves in next week, potentially bringing showers and cooler temperatures. According to the National Weather Service (NWS), today will see highs in the 60s near the coast while inland valleys hit the 70s. Mountain regions will also enjoy the 60s and 70s, while the high desert and lower deserts turn up the heat with the 80s and mid-90s, respectively.

Warmer temperatures will continue on Sunday, heating the inland areas with highs from 75 to 88 degrees and 95 to 100 in the lower deserts. However, those sticking to the sandy shores should expect milder temperatures, ranging from 65 to 75 degrees.

The coastal chill will persist into the start of the work week, with Monday highs in the coastal zones forecast to hover between 65 to 72 degrees, according to details from an Area Forecast Discussion by the NWS. Valleys will see a similar cool-down, with temperatures projected to drop from the weekend highs to 72 to 85 degrees. Mountain and desert areas are also set to experience a slight dip in thermometers.

The weather shifts gears on Tuesday, as temperatures in coastal areas are expected to stay in the 60s, and valley regions ranging from cooler 68 to 78 degrees. The marine layer will also deepen, potentially obscuring views and bringing moisture inland. "Marine layer clouds that cover the Inland Empire and all of Orange and San Diego Counties this morning will retreat back to the coast through midday, but skies may not fully clear at the beaches," was detailed in the NWS's morning report.

Later in the week, the forecast predicts a chance of light rain courtesy of a low-pressure trough—mood music for the steadily deepening marine layer and something of a spoiler for beachgoers and sun chasers. An NWS discussion suggests the possibility of "a chance for light rain or drizzle west of the mountains in the steadily deepening marine layer ahead of the trough, and a chance for post frontal showers Friday and Saturday." As the weekend approaches, prepare for cooler temps, with a noticeable drop of 5-10 degrees below the average marking a more brisk end to the week.
