Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, Sea-Tac Airport is bracing for possible security delays as Israel and Iran's conflict intensifies, according to KOMO News. Despite these concerns, Michael Boyd, president of Boyd Group International, assured that Seattle flights are not expected to be impacted, "As far as any kind of cancellations that are taking place in the Middle East, or even in Europe, Seattle, Spokane, Fresno, not really going to be affected at all," Boyd said.
However, the situation overseas has led to significant disruptions in the region's airspace, with Jordan, Lebanon, and Iraq closing and then reopening their airspaces following Iran’s unprecedented drone and missile attacks on Israel, as per reports from Al Jazeera. The closures directly responded to security concerns, yet the rapid reopening signals a desire to restore normalcy in civilian air travel. Jordan's state TV affirmed that air traffic operations had resumed more than three hours earlier.
Israel has also lifted restrictions on its airspace following a highly effective defense against the Iranian onslaught, successfully intercepting 99% of the over 300 drones, ballistic missiles, and cruise missiles launched by Iran, KIRO 7 has stated. Despite the high success rate of the interception, several ballistic missiles did manage to cause minor damage to an Israeli air base, marking a significant escalation in direct military actions between the two nations.
Meanwhile, Israel's flag carrier El Al has announced the resumption of its operations and is aiming to stabilize the flight schedule as soon as possible, "El Al will continue to operate as much as possible to preserve the air bridge to and from Israel," they asserted. This effort is amidst a backdrop of retaliatory concerns, given the attack came less than two weeks after a suspected Israeli strike in Syria killed two Iranian generals.
