The search for a missing San Antonio teen who is feared to have drowned in Canyon Lake continued earlier today, officials confirm. Roiner Alejandro Rojas Pereira, 19, was swimming yesterday evening when a distressing event unfolded, leading to his disappearance beneath the lake's surface.
A witness saw Pereira in distress and attempted a rescue after observing him fall from a tube near the water intake of Canyon Lake Dam, as FOX San Antonio reported. The witness, who started swimming from the shore around 7 p.m., witnessed Pereira, "waving and yelling for help" before going under and not resurfacing.
The Comal County Sheriff's Office, alongside Hays SMART Dive Team and Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Wardens, were called to the scene shortly after the incident and have been leading the ongoing search efforts. Unfortunately, as of the latest reports, Pereira has not yet been located.
Further details from KTSA News detailed that Pereira was initially on a floating tube which he fell from prior to the attempted rescue. The search resumed this morning with officials and first responders back in the water, combing through the area for any sign of the teen.
This incident has cast a somber mood over the local community as the search continues. Pereira's family and friends await updates with hope for his safe return. Authorities have advised the public to stay clear of the search area to allow crews to operate efficiently and have promised to release further information as developments occur.
