Springfield's battle against drug trafficking scored another win this week as police seized a hefty load of cocaine and a loaded gun, with a four-legged officer playing a key role in sniffing out the stash. Springfield Police Department's Firearms Investigation Unit, backed by their K-9 Unit, made the bust on Monday on Plainfield Street. According to details released by the Springfield Police Department, detectives from SPD's FIU, led by Captain Brian Keenan, were tipped off about two men with a trove of drugs.

The action unfolded at midday, when officers pulled over a car driven by Emanuel Pizzaro, 34, with Idelberto Soto, 23, as the passenger. Police swiftly apprehended both men and managed to quickly find a firearm on Soto. To thoroughly search the vehicle for narcotics, officers summoned K-9 Flexx, who wasted no time in locating the drugs. K-9 Flexx's sharp nose led detectives to uncover one kilogram of cocaine tucked away in the car. Both Pizzaro and Soto are now facing multiple charges, the police said.

As per the Springfield Police report, Pizzaro, hailing from Springfield, is slapped with charges of trafficking cocaine weighing more than 200 grams and conspiracy to violate drug laws. Soto, also from Springfield, faces similar trafficking and conspiracy charges, with the additional count of possessing a firearm during the commission of a felony.
