A hail of gunfire in a Springfield neighborhood has led to the cuffs snapping shut on a 30-year-old man, police say. Justin Alvarez, hailing from the area, was collared on Monday night after Springfield's finest tracked him down connection with a daylight shooting spree that thankfully ended with no injuries.
According to the Springfield Police Department, the drama unfolded on the morning of March 24 when shots were detected by the city's ShotSpotter system on Ringgold Street. Alvarez, the alleged shooter, fired off rounds but hit no one, the report detailed. After a week-long manhunt led by the detective bureau, cops hauled in the suspect on the 200 block of Carew Street without further incident.
The detective work, summoned under the watchful eye of Captain Trent Duda, resulted in a flurry of charges against Alvarez. He's now staring down the barrel of an arrest warrant, facing accusations of discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, unlawfully packing heat without a license, carrying a loaded weapon, breaking and entering during daytime while armed, and assault & battery on a family or household member.
The police have remained tight-lipped about what prompted the alleged shooting spree, with details trickling out in bits and pieces since the arrest. The community, rocked by gun violence, looked on as Alvarez was hauled away, his fate now in the hands of the justice system.
