Step back in time at Cordell Hull Birthplace State Park's 'Historic Market Day' on May 4, where visitors will get a taste of 19th-century farm life. According to the park's announcement, the event will showcase the daily grind of sharecroppers in the 1880s and is open to the public from 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M., with not a penny needed for admission.

The day promises a full schedule of demonstrations and activities. Guests can expect, to see blacksmithing, spinning yarns, and churning cheese among other old-timey crafts.  It's an immersive experience that doesn't skimp on the details, rain or shine.

But this historic hootenanny isn't just for the grown folk. Children can get their hands dirty basketweaving, or give old games a whirl. For those with a penchant for the culinary arts, cooking demonstrations will roll out throughout the day. There will be vendors peddling historical items, for those who want to bring a slice of the past back home.

On the eve of the main event, May 3, Dolled up as a 'school day program,' the park invites school, and homeschool groups, to join the pre-market day education fest. With morning and afternoon sessions on tap, space is limited and registration is a must. Park officials have arranged for a museum check-in and small group tours, to make sure every young scholar gets their fair share of ye olde fun, according to the Tennessee government's website.

Those interested in this leap through history can find more details and sign up for the school program on the park's website
