After a 15-month intensive investigation, Baytown police have nabbed three men in the fatal shooting of a local high school athlete. Shane Hamilton, 16, was gunned down in January last year outside his home at the Park at Sorrento Apartments, located on the 3400 block of Shady Hill Drive. The teen's death has since led to the arrest of Timothy Holland, 22; Deondre Frazier, 21; and Eddie Cardenas, 24.
The break in the case comes after rigorous detective work by the Baytown Police Department, which reassured the community of their dedication to justice. "The professionals of the Baytown Police Department have spent the last 15 months investigating every lead, every possibility, utilizing all partnerships and resources currently available," Baytown Police Chief John Stringer said in a statement obtained by KHOU 11 News. The tragic event not only shook the community but also sparked a wider conversation on gun violence and gang activity in the area.
It is unclear what charges the trio will face, but the arrests send a clear signal to criminals. "We were very clear that anyone who visits violence upon the residents and visitors of Baytown will be identified, arrested, and brought to justice," Chief Stringer stated in a release, as reported by KTRK. The police chief's words echoed the department's resolve to curb the surge of violence affecting the community.
On that fateful evening of Jan. 10, 2023, emergency responders found Hamilton shot and attempted to save his life, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Hamilton's mother, Yosha Hamilton, recounted the horrific moment to KHOU 11 News, “I couldn’t say nothing to him. He was already gone,” she said. “He tried to come home. He tried to get in the house and come home." Shane was a student at Robert E. Lee High School and his untimely demise left a void in the hearts of those who knew him.
