A 20-year-old Toccoa man is in the clink after a gang-related drive-by shooting that left two people wounded last month. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced the arrest of Cornelius Devaughn Curry on Thursday, as per GBI's press release.

Curry faces a laundry list of charges including four counts each of aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of certain crimes, two counts of aggravated battery, and four counts under the Georgia Street Gang Terrorism Prevention Act. The Toccoa Police Department, grappling with the March 31 shootout on West Whitman Street approached the GBI for assistance, after the incident which occurred approximately 12:30 a.m., and saw two individuals suffering gunshots. Thankfully, both victims were discharged from local hospitals after receiving treatment.

The GBI’s regional office in Cleveland, together with the GBI Gang Task Force, zeroed in on the suspects after a meticulous investigation. With additional support from the Athens-Clarke County Police Department and multiple GBI work units, including the Athens regional office, the law enforcement agencies executed a search and arrest operation near Vintage Court that led to Curry's capture.

Officials signal that more arrests might be around the corner in connection to the case. The final dossier, once Cooked up by the GBI, will be turned over to the district attorney of the Mountain Circuit Judicial Circuit for prosecution. For those keeping score, Curry remains behind bars awaiting his day in court as the GBI continues to piece together the events of that fateful night.
